Learning new things every day
Last night I headed off to the regular FTF Wednesday night ride along the Yarra river. It's not normally the place to go to get your academic fix, but last night I heard two interesting "facts" from two "wise" little men.
The first one was, if you run in to something you have to be travelling at more than 50km/h to break bones. Unfortunately no one was willing to test this theory at 45km/h and then again at 50km/h so I guess we'll have to believe him.
The second was, it's possible to lean so far into a corner that you can be riding on the side walls of your tire. Impressive stuff! The rider, who's mouth this little pearl of wisdom fell out of, tried this stunt earlier in the ride right in front of me, but the demonstration was unsuccessful as the end of his handle bars were digging into the ground. He did however ride it into the ground like he was going to ride out of it, so bonus marks for that.
On a slightly more serious note, Scott and I raced the Bendigo 6 hour on the weekend just gone. It was my first trip to this track and I was quite surprised with it, I had heard lots of reports that it was tight and rocky and not that enjoyable. I found that it was in fact very rocky, but the single track was lots of fun and made for a good fun lap.
Our race had a slight hiccup early on when I suffered a pinch flat on one of the many rocks which put us out of the lead and into 2nd place chasing the Yeti team. Despite our efforts we were unable to make up lost time, although we did get close, and we ended up at the end of the day in 2nd place (we think, the computer gremlins still aren't giving up the results).
Next weekend the whole team is off to Canberra for the Scott 24 at Mt Stromlo, hopefully we'll have some pictures of that race since they've been a little bit hard to come by recently.
