Going gangbusters...
Well now, its nearly 2 weeks since the Scott, and the aftermath rolls on. There is a thread going on Farkin.net in regards to the prize situation that makes interesting reading, as well as an event review thread so drop over and have a look.
After the event itself, it became apparent that the team was a little dissatisfied with the lack of prizes. As this is a team blog, I will (try to) limit the statements here to facts and refer to a conversation I had yesterday with an APIS employee Tracy Angrove. I was told that the Pro Teams catagory was a winner take all catagory. Its nice to see that the event promoters are on top of the professionalism of the sport. Who it is that will fund and reward our exploits is a little beyond us. Whilst we may be in the pro team catagory ("run for the first time"), the title of Pro Team is as representative as the title Fish Biscuit... We are not a paid professional team, nor are any of the other teams in the catagory.
The prize money was advertised at $2000 for the winning team. I'm told that the money was then halved as there was more Pro Team Women entered in the catagory than they expected, and it was only fair to give half to each. So with more entrants than CORC wanted, with higher entry fee than ever before, and more teams entered, the prize money is reduced?? Ahhh....
To recieve absolutly nothing for the efforts of our team, and I'm told the Scott team also recieved nothing at all for 2nd place, is in the opinion of Felt Racing, poor. How is it possible that there be absolutly nothing presented to the 2nd and 3rd placed podium finishers of the supposed premiere class (excluding the solo riders, for whom it was their national championship) when entries were at an all time high, entry fee was at an all time high, and the event was going gangbusters.
Felt Racing will be seriously reconsidering their involvement at next years race. Perhaps in lights of the sheer number of participants it would be better off to remove the pro classes and faster riders entirely. Conflict would me minimized and it would open the event to far more first timers, and the event sponsors could finally get some value for money.
On a lighter note, I can tell you that the next race that we are lined up for is the Gravity 12 hour at Rosewhite on the 11th of Novemeber, and we hope to see you all up there. And the rumour about town is that these bikes are on their way, and you may just see us astride them! But naturally we shall wait and see.
And finally, Jack has been in the wars, so drop him a letter of support, or a padded suit, or a yellow jacket, and stop him being hit by cars and people!
Thanks for taking to time to read what we are up to. I'll endeavour to keep the content updated, so if you have any photos of the team, fire them over to me and I'll post them up.
Sorry for the lazy folks, but the photo upload is being tempremental, so no preeeety pictures today. Maybe tommorrow, eh!?
