Mid week training has been going well for Felt Racing, with Jack and Ash presenting for the Wednesday night Fatties ride at the Yarra Trails, with an all star cast including Claxton, Bell, Adams, Jackson, Randall and many others. The pace was frisky all night, with a full length ride being undertaken out to Petty's Orchard and beyond with a small amount of geographical embarrassment taking place trying to find some new trail. That little error resulted in me getting my damn feet wet in a stinky little creek, before we found the trail again and continued on. I spent a good deal of time learning to ride again, having squandered my limited skills up at on a mountain top, so Yarra trails trees now have a few new marks on them. I got my head around it later in the evening, and continued to chase Jack around the park. Which somehow held me in good stead for tonights Dirt Crit.
Dirt Crits tonight saw a Felt whitewash for the most part. Jason, Jack and Ash all fronted up to race the teams handicap and were allocated their partners. We hit up the start line after standing around and freezing for a half hour whilst the details were sorted, and then we were away. Blasting into the first section of single track, Jack lead followed by Ash, and after a bobble by Matt L (DBike), Jason strolled into 3rd position and for the next 3 laps, that pretty well the way it stayed with the boys working well together to crack the rest of the field wide open. Coming into transition, the secret weapons that aren't so secret were revealed, and numberplate's were exchanged as fast as possible to let our team mates out on course!
The final results were Jack and partner 1st, Ash and partner 3rd and Jason and partner 4th. So with triple points on offer, that has really put Jack in good stead for the series! The course was grippy, the Nightlightning lights were doing a perfect job as always, casting their perfectly graduated beams across the track, and scaring lap traffic as we came upon them, without a hitch. A great turnout of riders was present, and in all it was a great nights racing. The results as always will be up on the Full Gas site shortly, so check in there.
In other news, the guys have been provided Hutchinson Barracuda tires for a long term evaluation, so check back to hear how thats going, as well as some more pics of the 2008 range of Felt bikes as we go. Finally, I hear that there is an epic on the cards this weekend- I wonder where that will be??

With the crits I've found that the LarsensTTs and Crossmarks have been better suited due to the hardpacked surface, BUT the one section of the track where the Barracudas really have a huge advantage is on the gravel - ie, across and down the top hill, before the train crossing, and across the second train crossing.
On the other hand I found out last week how truly awful having a Larsen in the mud was, and unfortunately my new Barracudas only arrived yesterday.
I have a suspicion the Barracuda will do a slightly better job at Lysterfield than the Larsen, since it's much softer ground on the Red Gum, Upper Buckle and Blair Witch trails than we get at Westgate.
I'd be interested to hear what you guys have to say about the Barracudas when you're done testing them.
