Mud!
There was something missing from Thursdays dirt crit this week, traction. Melbourne had about 7mm of rain in less than 12 hours before the race, which is really good for peoples gardens, but meant we where in for a muddy crit. I can't remember the last muddy crit so this one was going to be interesting. The rain had scared off a few people so the field was slightly reduced. A fast start saw Matt and I get a bit of a gap on the rest of the A grade field by the end of the first lap, which we were both lucky to finish as there was plenty of slipping and sliding going on as we tried to remember how to ride in the slick mud of westgate park. I managed to get a gap on Matt when we caught some lap traffic in a tricky spot and Matts battery tried to escape. I had to work hard to increase the gap until there was less than half a lap to go and I noticed there was someone behind me all of a sudden. Matt had ridden like a mad man through the last section of single track while I had dozed off. It took a big effort to stay in front but I managed to roll across the line to take the win. Lets hope for a dry track next week.
A big thank you has to go out to Dub, who made his last appearance at the dirt crits last night. He's been down there week in week out for the last few years setting up, packing up, timing, registering, putting up with all of us, just so we can ride around in circles each week. So Thank You from Felt Racing, and hopefully we'll see you around some where soon.
