Off the Couch into the Office Chair
Yes I am still alive, and back in Melbourne after an extended stay in my home town of Merbein due to a night driving the porcelain bus.
My side of the trip was quite different to Ash, but not in a good way. I got to enjoy the most exciting moment of the drive up as a kookaburra attempted to fly into the side of my shiny new car, those big beaks look pretty scary at 100km/h!
Ash using the hill (yes it is a hill for this road) to get a gap on me in the Felt van
The ride on Saturday had a very MTB moment as Ash nearly threw in the towel at the sight of water and the idea of riding through it. A must have warmed up to the idea as he came with in half a bees you know what from being wet head to toe, very funny, but not footage unfortunately for the rest of us.
Saturday afternoon is where the fun began for me. An afternoon nap after the ride and to try to get rid of a headache ended in a pretty much sleepless night (I'll spare you the details). By the morning racing was out of the question and with little improvement it was decided to take the trip into the Mildura Base Hospital. The waiting was cut a little bit shorter when my final year nursing student sister managed to get me in a bit faster with a doctor she knew, thanks Penny. So after 2 bags of saline and a sleep I was feeling a bit better but the blood tests didn't show anything??? I suspect a dirty camelbak bladder, which will be getting a good clean out, but I'm not sure.
The next 4 days were spent in Merbein doing nothing but sleeping and watching TV on the couch as I tried to eat and drink which was surprisingly hard. Friday I was just well enough to drive all the way back to Melbourne, followed by a weekend of couch and TV. And today I dragged myself off to work for the day. It might have even been good for me as I feel pretty good tonight, I just had a little ride to the post office which put a big smile on my face to be back on a bike, hopefully some more serious riding and training is just around the corner, followed by some racing, stay tuned.
Custom Felt fixie commuter, perfect for those trips to the post office and such. Keep an eye out at the next set of traffic lights.
