Chase The Sun Finale

This past weekend marked the end of the 2008 FGP Chase The Sun Enduro series at Lysterfield. The final race was the longest of the series and ran for 8 hours. The Felt Racing teams for the day consisted of regulars Scott and Myself (Jack) in team number 1 and in team number 2 was Felt Racing ring in Josh Flemming and Team Manager Jarrod Acfield. Jarrod was there for most of the day anyway.

With this being the last race of the series series points were closely examined before the race. Felt Racing 1 was sitting in 3rd place and with a good result in this race were in with a good chance of stealing 1st place from Giant and Torq.

The rain leading up the race was sure to make it another mud bath but with some thoughtful course designing from the organisers most of the mud was avoided. The first couple of laps were very greasy in places but after a few laps and plenty of riders over the course the track became nice and fast except for a few small sections.

In a change from the usual arrangement, Scott stepped up and volunteered for the start. He was able to get us into 2nd place just off John Claxton from Giant, Josh was taking it a little bit easy a few places back since his team mate for the day hadn't turned up yet! I was off for the next lap trying to chase down Murray Spink. The race for first was close for a few laps while the lead swapped between us and Giant a few times, in the mean time we both extended the gap to Torq in 3rd. Still no word from Jarrod???

Scott sitting in a nice position after the prologue.

With Giant slowly pulling away we did what we could to ensure we held onto our 2nd place.

Jarrod arrives!!! I'm sure Josh was happy to see him finally as he had just completed a 4 hour stint with 6 solid lap times.

At the end of the day Felt Racing 1 held on to 2nd place over all. One place behind Giant and one in front of Torq. Unfortunately, to climb to the top of the series standings we needed to beat Giant and be 2 places in front of Torq. One place off the top isn't bad in the end, just goes to show how closely fought the series was.

Next weekend is the 6 hour race in Castlemaine which is sure to be another great race on a good fun track, plus there is 16" racing on the Saturday night, look out! Rumour has it that the competition is going to be hot, so it should be a good tough race.
