Hamblin Hire Nail Can Hill MTB Ride

Albury's Nail can Hill weekend hosts two events; a mountain bike point to point on saturday and a point to point run on a similar course the following day. At only about 15kms long the race is short enough to really smash it out and makes it really good fun. The mountain bike race starts on fireroad and after about one and a half kilometers the gradient abruptly increases for the next few ks to sort out the feild, the first rider to the top of the hill is literally handed a $50 note for their efforts... My brother Mark and another young local attacked before the climb and built around a 30m gap to the chase group at the base. I worked hard and very gradually pulled Mark in and pulled away only about 150m before the top. After pocketing the cash at the top of the climb there was a lot of fun to be had! From here on the course is mostly singletrack, using albury's diverse terrain; lots of fast flowing singletrack but plenty of tight weaving between trees and rocks to keep you on your toes. It would be fair to say that rocks are a pretty constant feature making tubeless tyres a must and duallies a smart option. After building a small lead over the climb the familiar single track suited me down to the ground allowing me to take the win by around 2 minutes. Definitely one of my favourite races in the year! At only $10 to enter I highly recommend it for anyone.

Cheers Neil
