Clearing up rumours
Firstly, let me just say there is only a little bit of truth to the rumour that one of our team mates managed to get his head sandwiched in an automatic door at work. Okay, just to dispel those horrible rumours, he wasn't bent over reaching through the door to get something he had dropped and the doors closed on his head. Nope, not at all.... :)
Rumours and allegations (oh, there's more!!) aside, another Thursday meant another Dirt Crit to contest, and with the overseers' of the park watching on from afar, we used a course almost forgotten to the regular racers. In fact, we took a few wrong turns as we are so used to going a certain course. But no matter... With a debacle of a start after Ash lunched a brake pad spring and used some emergency fix to get rolling again (yep, new pads bought today!) we were away and racing. One T.Bailey (BrunswickStCycles) had a clanger with an overzealous fork rebounding him into the shrubbery and coming off like a sack of the proverbial, and that ladies and gentlemen was effectively the race... Jack and Ash reeled off some fast laps on the very short course to keep the rest of the A Graders at bay, and then focused on their own battle for the win. Negotiating the traffic of the other grades was made easier not having other A graders breathing down our necks, so it was a more leisurely series of passing maneuvers that got us in the clear. Coming to the last chance hill, Jack had it wide open and was holding off the passes through sheer pace, and with Ash calling the pass, he (rightly) closed the door on a great passing maneuver. Not wanting to throw it away for both of them, Ash waited until the (very very) last minute and snuck up the inside on the line, leaving the decision of who to award the win, to the officials who earn the big bucks and deserve that sort of pressure! In the washup, the riders declared a draw, and the officials this week handed the win to Ash, assisting his series campaign no end!
All in good fun, we'll be at it next week again, come down and play at the FullGasPromotions Dirt Crits, you'll love it!
