Slick like oil on glass...
Full Gas dirt crits again last night, saw a decent size crowd fill out grades A through D for more racing on the dark side. And this week featured Jack rolling Ash (results and times) this time for the win in the sprint. The two are very evenly matched at the moment, and with the conditions tricky at best, Jack worked hard to get the upper hand and power away on the final rise, putting Ash away.
With the usual burst of speed off the line, the Felt Racing guys put some time into the rest of the field, with Troy Bailey (Brunswick St Cycles) hanging on for a lap or two, before falling foul of a long armed tree, arresting his progress up to the leaders. On lap two, the Felt riders saw a gap appear, and turned up the screws to make it a race of two. Having problems with the slick clay, Ash spent a good deal of the race playing catch up to Jack, who powered through the greasy sections and having only minor difficulties. As the sections linked together on wide track, Ash easily bridged back up and put on some spectacular late passes, up on the front wheel in an attempt to get the bike down from speed and around the corners, but towards the end of the race, with traffic at the forefront of both our minds, it was Ash that led out the sprint on the first rise, only to spend his biscuits too soon and be swamped by Jack who had a better run off the first hill, and Jack rolled around for the well deserved win.
Thanks again, as we should every week, to Dubba and the staff at FGP for putting on great racing, so close to the city.
