Dirt Crit - where's the mud??
Last night was supposed to be a mud bath... What happened to that?? Turns out it wasn't so bad, although I've not looked at my bike too intently yet. Rolling down on the Barracudas to the crits, it was a warm evening with solid drizzle and it set the tone of the race. The drizzle persisted right into the race, and with bikes traveling over the course repetitively, the course quickly turned greasy. But back to the start...
From the gun, there was a decent field as always and a new face determined to be part of the action, fighting tooth and nail for track position. In an effort to make crits a little different, (no offence to management, doing a great job, we just do it every week), a few of us set up a little game to play in the race. Whilst the rules are not important to anyone else, it was amusing to do something different and see the rest of the field in action. But sadly the field suffered from attrition in the greasy conditions with various riders taking small tumbles on obstacles like wet pipes, wooden bridges (oh so many crashes!!) and railroad tracks.
Come the end of lap 3, Jack sadly took a tumble on the greasy railroad tracks crossing and whilst he bounced back up, Matt L (DBike) and I had opened it up for a little bit and a gap had appeared. Playing the dutiful team mate (thanks mate!), and because there is a somewhat hazy work ethic in the bunch we are seeking to rectify (jk), Jack chose not to do any work to bring us back, allowing/forcing the other riders to step up and chase. There may have been some disorganization perhaps, as the chase didn't really eventuate in any formidable sense, and allowed Matt and myself to skip away.
Into the last section of singletrack, Matt opened it up again, and I couldn't respond to his final effort, and watched him get a small gap. The traffic at the finish was quite hectic and there was an opportunity to snake Matt on the line, as we were once again neck and neck, but he had done all the work for the race, and was the deserved winner on the night.

This weekend is the second round of Chase the Sun, the start list is here and the weather is just not playing ball... It looks to be the first muddy race of the year, at the going rate, and with many fast teams showing up, it looks to be on like donkey kong.
I'll leave you with the race to watch on the weekend- A wager has been laid down between the Giant team of M.Spink and Maebus, and solo rider Mitch Anderson. The wager is a slab of Smirnoff, to the line honour winner. To clarify that, Giant *team* vs. Solo rider over 6 hours, line honours'. Mmmm, get out your wallet Mr Anderson, we thinks...

A lsab of smirnoff... this is a race between MEN isn't it?
well maebus doesn't like beer - the wager is smirnoff for maebus, and whatever spinkta wants when he tells mitch. mitch has said the slab of beer will do him if he wins. silly boy, too much time training has fried his brain.
