The Beaconsfield Mud Pit
There isn't much to say about yesterdays race except that it was wet, very wet. It rained all day Saturday and on into the night, rain was still falling when I turned up to the track in the morning but it was clearing, a good sign. Felt only had one team entered in this race so it was Scott and I were doing it for the red team.
Due to the poor conditions Scott and I, along with a few other teams decided that double laps would be a good option for the day. While this is usually a slightly slower option it paid off on this occasion as we only had to venture out into the slop 3 times during the day and it gave us plenty of time to dry off and warm up in between laps.
Early on it was a pretty close race between ourselves and one of the Specialized teams. The track conditions during the race were constantly changing as the water drained from the track and was topped up by a couple of small showers. The mud made drinking difficult, and any water that did get into your mouth was likely to have mud mixed in too, giving it some funky tastes. As the race wore on the Specialized team were able to open up a gap of a few minutes which we were unable to close. Second place at the end of the day was a pretty good result considering the conditions.
Unfortunately Scott and I were with out our usual Felt Tent City for the day. But the nice boys in pink were happy to have us in there. Rohin "The Dirty Ginger" Adams was even kind enough to wash one of our bikes at the end of the day, what a champ!
