FELT RACING: Chase the Sun Series Champs.
The weekend saw the final round of Chase the Sun MTB Enduro series be run and won.
The day was far from desirable for all 360 competitors the volunteers and those that were there for support, with STRONG winds, lots of rain and mud finding all crevasses, enthusiasm and motivation were at an all time low for everyone. You could find some worth in being there knowing that it was the last in a very tiring series, understandably that was the tone of the day really.
It is unfortunate that what should be a really competitive series is time and time again let down by the weather, but I guess that's the game.
It wouldn't be a FELT RACING event without having the standard mishaps and debacles, so true to form a few days out from race time Paul had a bit of an off on the Yarra Trails fracturing his thumb and throwing the A team brother duo Neil and Paul "FELT RACING tear some legs off" in disarray. So I got the call up to the A team, while and Peter Hatton filled in with James Maebus to pull the load in the B team "FELT RACING late comers"
With the series on the Line and only a few points separating the top teams the pressure was there to ride a furious, but cautious and tactical race, and that's exactly what we did, we were able to stay with the danger teams until the end and cement our place on the top of the tree for the series.
In saying this, the end of the race came rather prematurely for the Pro Male Pairs. With the weather at its disgusting worse, and half the event entry list pulling out, the PRO teams decided on a truce, and finishing the race there and then 3 hours into the race. That was all she wrote. The odd team down the bottom end of the field chose to ride on for the chance at a long awaited podium, but nothing disrupted the series standings too much.
With the top teams nurturing riders to race at the World Champs and in the Tour de Timor making the decision to secure good health and and fully functioning bike was the right move to make.
Im not exactly sure what the results were at the end of the day for round 4 of the series, but I do know that Peter Hatton and James Maebus rode on to 2nd place! Congratulation guys.
But the Big news for the day was that FELT RACING were crowned champions of the series.
We now turn our attention to East Timor where Neil Myself and Peter will compete in what seems to be shaping up as an epic adventure and event.
