Frantic...!!!
Last night at Dirt Crits, saw a frantic evening for the Felt Racers, Ash and Jack. With Ash barely making it to the race after a day of MTB instructing in the bush, rolling in via car less than 10 mins from the race start, it was going to be hairy for at least one of boys. Never one to scrimp on the important things, a warmup for Ash involved lollies and powergel, and a dash of good luck. With all the ancillary bits and pieces attached like plates and lights, FGP's own Dubba called the start and we were away!
Confusing confidence with ability, the boys charged off into the darkenss. Ash had an exciting moment whilst recalling that the brand new pads that he put in his Avid Juicy 7's the night before had not been ridden/bedded in. With a pocketful of exuberance and a barrowload of speed, Ash and bike speared off into the shrubs briefly while he bought it down from speed, only to regain the track and not lose any places. With a hot start, the lead group in A grade was already down to 3 by the halfway point of the first lap, and the pace was red hot. Matty L (DBike) was hanging on, with Ash and Jack, until at a freshly (butchered) altered section of track, a metre of 10mm steel wire managed to do a ful lap of Ash's wheel, wrapping the hub. Whilst the offending steel was removed, all of the A grade went by, as Ash watched in amazement how such a large bit of steel could get so stuck!
With the steel finally freed and hurled on the wings of expletives, to a far of section of the world where no person shall visit, the job at hand was a long one. Head down and bum up, Ash charged back into the fray aboard his Felt FR1000 training bike, and worked his way past all bar one of the A graders, Jack beating him home by less than 10m, making it anther Felt 1 & 2.
Both riders bikes worked perfectly tonight, Jack's RXC team giving him the ability to ride full gas when he saw someone approaching, and Ash's bike was bombproof coping with a few glucose induced get-offs- another successful night for Felt Bicycles and the Felt Racing team.
This weekend sees the team at almost full power, with the exception of Jason whose wife is due any day now. We wish him again all the best, and hope that you all come an support us this weekend at the Officer FTF 6 Hour enduro! Jamie Paisley joins Paul Van Der Ploeg to run the second Felt team and of course we shall be shooting for a 1-2 finish. What our competitors have to say about that, well time will tell.
cya out there!
