Dirt Crit photos
With another series of dirt crits done and dusted, it gets us that much closer to the end of the year, approaching with frightening speed! Tonights race was captured with a variety of happy snaps, so don't be expecting work from Harookz or Sterling Lorence (google 'em). The race itself was a good one, for the most part. Jack and I worked together to work over the field from the gun. Making it a race of 2 is always a better bet on our behalf, and so we work to make it so!
It was made all the more exciting by a rabbit we chased for about 15m through singletrack, and the snake that I came bloody close to riding over, and the gusty cross wind that made jumping the railway tracks a risky proposition every lap. In the actual race, Jack and I rolled turns for the race until the 2nd last lap where I turned it up a fraction to put Jack into a little bit of bother, and then on the start of the last lap I attacked and appeared to get a gap. Rolling up the road, I took a fun corner just as I had every other lap, and managed to flex the sidewall of my tyre enough to break the seal of the glue on my tyre allowing the (internal) patch to simply fall off. Never has that happened to me before, but they were not the approved Hutchinson rep'air kit patches, so lesson learned I guess. Still, the DNF (fixing a flat in a 40 min race? 2 minutes and its race over...) meant that I dropped out of the series places as well by some 8 or so points. Jack of course picked up the win, putting a little 'Arthur Ashe' in his 'skyrocket' (to quote one P.Rowney) and making him a happy little camper.
Never to worry, we're off to the Gravity this weekend, and its going to a ripper weekend! Also, its Paul's 17th birthday today, so say a belated happy birthday as he zooms past ya!! :)
(Oh, thanks to Jill for some of the photos, much appreciated. You get a gold star!)
