Jack wins Dirt Crit

I know it sadly doesn't have the same ring as Paul's string of wins that he has recently notched up, but we take them where we get them!

Last nights Dirt Crit was a dicey one, the day was full of rain and the majority appeared to stay home, whick turned out more fool them! The course was dry bar 2 or three minor puddles which made everyone happy as it meant bike washing was a thing of the past. With only 6 starters on the line in A Grade, it was a select crew chasing series points.

With the race underway, I blew the start as bad as one can, not getting a foot clipped in and ending up close to DFL before the first turn. Jack meanwhile had opened it up to get into the singletrack first, and I had a bit of a task getting back on terms with them. Popping a few angry pills got the matter attended to, and into the first single track it was myself, Jack followed by Erin (BSC) and Matt L (DBike).

As we generally do, the leaders decided that a race of few was better than a race of many, and we got to the task of shelling everyone until we were left with a bunch we liked. In broad strokes, Jack and I wicked it up until we were away, and make it a race of 2. Matt and Erin chased hard for a few laps, but fell away mid race, leaving us to experiment with some lines on the track and generally enjoy the tacky track.

For some strange reason, Jack rode the front of the race for the whole time, with me just sitting on the back. So rather than jump him nice and early, I chose to just have a crack on the final climb and sprint, so when the time came, Jack had a surprisingly huge kick up the hill and made me work damm hard for it. Along the top of the course before the final series of dead slow corners, we drew level at full tilt before I backed off to make the last corner without putting either of us in danger.

Deservedly, Jack picked up the win, the $$ and the 35 points to go to his series tally after a good race on the front. I rolled in for less $$ and a laugh, and all in all, it was a snappy little race. Mention must go to the new owner of a sheep station; obviously having a long fought battle, 2 B grade riders came to the final corners before one dropped it right in front of everyone. Picking up his bike and running, they were neck and neck to the last corner where the guy still riding then dropped it too, so down the finish chute both riders were pushing their bikes at full noise, with the crowd cheering wildly. Very funny way to end the day!!

From last report as well, the Virtue bikes are on the water and due into port in the next 2 weeks, so we should be seeing some of the production models very very soon, hopefully before the Redesdale 24 hour eh!!
