Hot Day At The Office For Felt Racing

Hello all, Jack here for a change while Ash is off hobbit hunting in NZ.

This week end saw Paul, Jason and myself heading up to Eildon for the first round of the 2007 Enduro series to race at the Fat Tyre Flyers 2007 edition of the Hard Day At The Office, as a team of three for a change. With the weather man forecasting 38 degrees in Melbourne we all knew it was going to be a hot one, and we weren't disappointed.

"Gee that sun looks hot!"

The race was under way at 9:00am and Jason with due back in Melbourne soon after lunch he was sent out on his own for the first two hours while Paul and I looked after him with some creative bottle changes. With some extra time to kill the two of us relaxed in the Felt Tent City (which provided plenty of much needed shade) while watching riders negotiate a section of the track on our doorstep which turned out to be much trickier than it looked.

Home for the day

Smoooooth change over

Jason put in some good laps to give us a great start and then handed it over to Paul and I. So off we went doing out best to extend on the lead that Jason had made for us. All was going well until I came in to finish a double lap only to be told that Paul's bike didn't have a back brake! Not what I was wanting to hear, so out I went again with an icy fresh bottle. It wasn't long though and I saw one of the best things all day, Paul waiting by the side of the track ready for a mid lap transition, back brake installed and ready to go.

Paul, adding to the rumor that he just hovers above the track!

We did our best to deal with the heat as the day wore on and the dust as the track wore down, but what do you expect in a drought. Considering the lack of moisture the track held up well, it had some tight twisty single track, some good climbs, some really fun fast descents and some jumps and logs to keep you awake. I think I even saw some breaking ruts but didn't really feel them on the Virtue One. I'm still amazed at how fast this bike will go down a hill!

5:00 came by and we came in for a win in the Male three's category, only just, as I managed to land front wheel first off a jump, burping the tire, within sight of the finish line. All in all it was a good (and HOT) day out for Felt Racing and a win is aways a good way to start the year, Pauls fastest lap was also a nice extra.

A big thanks to GVRaceTech, who we kept very busy thought the day tweaking, tuning and cleaning our dusty steeds and for creating and dismantling our traveling tent city once again.

Presentations also included the 2006 Enduro series results where Felt Racing pulled off a 3rd in the Male Pairs category.
