Dirt crits sans dirt....
Well that was a tough race, down under the Westgate last night! With a very hurried prequel to the race involving some swift mechanical alterations, JAck and I both made it to the start line for another bout of pain!
Kicking off at the magic word, we rolled to the front and completed basically a sighting lap as neither of us had done a practice lap, and no one else was keen to come up and suffer in the wind! With the course sorted out, involving precious little singletrack for a change, mostly bike track, we cracked the pace and dropped a few people to make it a race of 4. Jack completed one of the most awesome recoveries from a high side in the Boeing section, a bit of trail that has linked berms in sand, and we were away with Russ (Kona) and Erin (Brunswick St). Erin was determined to stay out of doing any work, and clung to the back of the train, whilst Russ popped to the front occasionally to open 'er right up.
Later in the race, traffic was the deciding factor once again, with Jack and I getting a spacer in between us and the chasers, and from then on it was their race for the losing. We held the pace as high as we could with Jack dangling me off the back, before his huuuuge week caught up with him and I was able to get past and get a gap, and then hold that through to the finish, giving me 1st place (a supprise after 2 weeks car touring NZ) and Jack smoked Russ for second on the final 'hill'. Results are in the usual place, and we'll see you after the weekend.
Thanks for checking us out!
