Felt Racings' 1st Euro style marathon

With the Big Hill Events marathon sponsored by Felt Bicycles and Hutchison Tires looming tomorrow, the weather has been kind to us and sprinkled a little water to dampen the dust and with cooler temps forecast for tommorrow's 90km race, it all bodes well for the team. Ash and Jason are fired up for a good day out on the course, comfortable in the fact that the Virtues would be pretty much the bike of choice being light, active and super fast on the undulating course. Jack still has issues with his hand, not having fully healed from his incident with the car, and is a day-by-day proposition to race, but we are confident that he will be on the start line tomorrow, ready to give 'er! The start list is here, check out your competition for the day!

Bikes of choice for Felt Racing - Virtue 1's
Tyres of choice for Felt Racing - Hutchinson Pirhanas for their absolute speed!
Cycle computer of choice - Echowell w1/w2 for their waterproof reliablilty

To recap last week's crit down at Westgate park, it was another very rushed affair, arriving not more than a handful of seconds before the announced race start. Fortunately there was a few minutes delay so I could catch my breath, and then we started. Jack was also playing it cautious with his hand, and elected to road ride down and cheer us on from the sidelines, in an effort to get his hand right for the weekend.

The first few laps felt very pedestrian, and after a little squirt to break up the bunch, 4 riders sat clear for the first 3 laps. I noticed that a fixed gear rider (Duncan Murray - BSC) was catching us and decided it was time to get on with it. Cracking the throttle, we leapt clear of the bunch and Russ Collett (Kona Mt Buller Factory Team) and I rode away from the chasers.

A move on the final lap by Russ was nearly the undoing of my chances, sneaking between two lapped riders at a tricky spot, but he was unable to capitalize on his little move and I chased him back down in the windy straights, until the final hill where he lacked the finishing power and was happy to roll in for second. Another win to Felt Racing, and its all looking good for tomorrow at the Marathon, so we shall see...!

See you out there, and hopefully we can get some photos to liven this up a little (send 'em in!!) Oh and speaking of photos, the trainspotters of you out there will notice a little pic in the calendar in MTB Australia this month, and also on the crits page on the FGP website, which is kinda cool for Felt racing.

Till tommorrow, and an hour of extra sleep!!
