Jack's had a mischief...

Looks like 'ol Jack has come to a bit of a mischief....! From what we understand, he was riding home past Flinders St station, and had a car door open on him and a passenger get out! In the wild moments that always follows something like that, somehow his hand copped the brunt of the impact, closely followed by his bike, but fortunatly none are broken! With a trip home in the *front* seat of a divvy van, flicking the sirens on and playing with the radio, he was pronounced alive and well, concurred by the hospital the following day - nothing broken, it was already screwy!

It was a very sore Jack last night who still showed up to help out at Dirt Crits, something that is appreciated I'm sure. He managed to get the camera out and point it at us as we went by every so often, which was both painful and appreciated! I'm not sure that I could turn up to watch, as it kills me to not be able to participate, but as I've been through the same thing (pic from Kona 2005 below)But at any rate, we got amongst it with faces such as Lockie Norris (UniSA.com/U23 National team) Rob Eva (SRAM) Mikkeli Godfree (FreeWheel) and a cast of many others. From the gun Shaun from Orbea opened it up hard, and stretched a gap out, and promptly blew to smithereens in around a minute - unfortunately they award the prizes at the end of the race, not the start. If they did, he'd clean up! And to keep his record intact, he also smashed a front dérailleur clean from his bike... Amazing...!

We charged around the course, where I took a small deviation and rejoined the back of the field, and then worked my way back through to the front. Perhaps there is merit in a sighting lap... A few of us managed to get clear early on, Matt L (DBike) Erin (BSC) and we were joined by J.Maebus who arrived late, but came and rolled around with us none the less. From there we tried to hold off Lockie Norris, but after 3 laps, he clawed his way back onto the group. Losing Matt and acquiring Lockie wasn't the most ideal thing for me in the scheme of things, so we kept the pace as high as possible to make everyone suffer, and not get a rest.

Coming into the last lap, Erin slipped quietly off the back as Lockie and I hammered around, not keen to give an inch. Maebus made himself scarce as not to influence the results, and we railed around the course and other riders, with me trying successfully to keep Lockie in the which panned out to be successful - a bit of local knowledge goes a long way sometimes!

And whilst this post has taken 3 days to write, I may as well add that Jason and I got out on Black Rock ride this morning to belt ourselves crosseyed, and succeeded in doing just that. Together with Bellie (Kona) and with a cameo from Matt Jackson (sadly he only rides a Felt MTB, not road...) we made sure that we were all hurting, with the bunch strung out pretty well the whole way, continuing up to Brighton on the way home.

So thats it, your honour, plenty of riding leading up to the Felt/ Hutchinson Big Hill Events Marathon, should be a great day, have a look at the link for more info, and get your entries in.
