Choices choices...
Wet. Bloody wet. Almost like good old days, wet! There was a shower/storm about 3pm- prior to that, we would have been laughing. Damp, but laughing. Sadly, not to be... So Thursday nights down at the dirt crits is getting colder it would seem, as one could reasonably expect. Colder, like bring every piece of clothing you own kinda cold. But the rain, thats the killer!
The course was similar to last week, but for some more puddles which were quickly spread around with riders splashing through. After the water had given our bikes a good coating, it then allowed the greasy mud a great place to land, and the bikes got absolutely filthy.
As did the riders, particularly me as I spent most of the race sitting on Jack's wheel. Which in hindsight was a bit of a poor idea, as I had forgotten my glasses, but he was equally opposed to the idea as I was on the Barracudas that were throwing up the most amazing quantity of roost. Reduced to walking pace in the single track with worn Pirahnas, Jack was struggling to keep it all together, whilst my tyres rode like it was dry. A little commitment was required to get them working on the shoulders, and then they just roosted! On the flat bike path sections however, they were a little slower as they are a full sized knob tyre, and Jack was able to keep me in check. So that was the race really, my cluster was full of mud and as Jack wandered up the road on the start of lap 5, I had 27 choices of nothing going on downstairs so I had to sacrifice a water bottle to get things back into operation and by that time, Jack had shot through...
So it seems that Jack has a reasonably unassailable lead in the series points and racking up a handy series of wins! This weekend we head to Beaconsfield Upper for the Dirt Riders 6 Hour with the inimitable Paul Van turning up for a blat around the park. A 3 man team is on the cards for this one, so we actually get to enjoy time in the pits and then turn out some hot laps. Rumour has it that there is another hitter 3 man team, so it should make for a good little race. Here's hoping the weather plays nice for the day :)
