Brake levers hurt
Dirt crits again last night down at Westgate park. With Ash working hard on the trophies for this weekends Chase the Sun, I was left to fly the Felt flag solo. The race got under way in the usual fashion and the first lap pace was kept high enough to let three of us get away from the rest of the field. Matt, AJ and I were later joined by Erin on the second lap. In an effort to thin out the bunch, I picked up the pace in a section of single track on the far side of the park but managed to introduce one of my pedals to a very solid stump that hides in the grass on the side of the single track. This resulted in me going over the bars in a very spectacular crash that Matt and AJ got full view of. My landing was nice and soft in the long grass on the side of the track, but the damage was still to come as somehow during the crash my bike and I swapped sides and it came crashing down on me and I think one of the brake leavers was the cause of the gash in my forehead. Apart from that I was ok, so I dusted myself off, straightened my glasses and light and began to chase back on to the leaders which took the rest of the lap. It was smooth sailing for awhile as AJ, Matt and I got a gap on Erin to make it a race of three. Matt had chain problems on lap four which ended his race and left me with a 50m gap to catch up on AJ, so I had to dig a bit deeper than I would have liked to get back onto his wheel. The last lap was a little bit quieter as AJ and I were waiting to see what the other would do before the finish, which wasn't much. The race finished with a sprint up the last hill where I was able to just take the win in what was one of the more interesting races I've had down there.
This Sunday is the final race of the FGP Chase the Sun series at Lysterfield. Felt Racing will be fielding two teams in the hope of taking out 1st and 2nd place for the series, fingers crossed. It should be a good day as always, check back here for results and stories from week end,
