Fully Slick!

Tonight Ash and Jack braved the mud and puddles of Westgate park for another FGP Dirt Crit. With most of the usual suspects in attendance we were sent off in to the slop that is Westgate park during winter, a couple of small showers before race start gave the track a very slick top layer which made things interesting. Ash, Matt and I got away soon after the start and were able to build on our lead during the first lap. Ash made a break for it on the second lap which neither Matt or I were able to do anything about due to our tire choice, so with Ash disappearing into the distance and Matt having some trouble staying upright in the testing conditions it was quite a lonely race for the three of us.

The rain was kind enough to hold off until just after the race when another quite heavy shower passed over. So being the big tough mountain bikers that we are we stood around under the roof of the BBQ area trying to find the courage to ride home in the rain, even though we were all ready wet and covered in mud. Ash was trying out the latest seasons rain jackets, otherwise known as a plastic bag, to try and stay dry on the way home. But good things come to those who wait, or don't want to get wet, and the rain stopped just as fast as it started and the ride home was quite pleasant.

Lets hope that Sundays 6 hour enduro in Castlemaine has a little less mud, it would be nice to ride on some dry dirt for a change.

The regular night time racing is giving us a chance to give our Night Lighting lights a good run too. Check out the review of the new Blaast, with upgraded LEDs, in the latest Mountain Bike Australia mag. And stay tuned for when we get our hands on a set and we can let you know how they go.
