Studs in the clipless gumboots
Whilst it wasn't too much of a surprise, Thursday night was another muddy one, with Jack and I both choosing to run training bikes in the mud. Another not terrible surprising fact was the toll that the race takes on bikes, with Jack's bike suffering contaminated brake cables (and therefore they would stay on) and my bike chewed through a set of pads, and did little to ease the indexed headset that I currently have (thought GVRaceTech gave it another lease on life today)
So the race itself was a kinda strange one- Jack, Matt and myself all got away and were happily setting a tempo, and we all pretty much decided at the same moment, without consultation, that we weren't really keen to bury ourselves in the cold and wet. At roughly the same time also, Jack managed to garrote himself on a tree and had to stop to arrange himself again, and I decided that it was a good time to have a crack and then shut it down if it didn't work. On my single speed, I gave it a bit of pace for a while and turned to find that Matt had decided/was unable to come with, and with a small lead I tried to turn that into a bigger lead.
Jack got himself sorted back out, but wasn't able to bridge back across and was content to roll around and save his legs for the weekend. Matt kept pushing, but also didn't manage to get across and hence I was able to take my first win in a while after Jack pinched almost all the points for the last series ;)

So tomorrow should be a very chilly Chase the Sun #3, so we'll see you out there!
