It's Cold Up In the Hills!

*edited by ash.

So winter is finally here. Yesterday a few brave riders headed into the Dandenogs for a hilly training ride (GPS link), and to see what all this fuss about the cold was about. The colourful bunch included Felt Racings Ash and Jack, a pair of pink boys Rohin and Big George, and a Giant duo of Matt and Crazy Ivan.

Into the clouds we went as we headed up the mountain, and guess what, it does get cold up there! The sun made some brief appearances but we spent the majority of the ride wondering what was about to appear out of the fog.

A coffee break in Emerald was welcomed by all, especially Ash who seemed very happy with his choice. Sitting outside didn't really give us a chance to warm up at all as it was still very cold.

The warm up after stopping was made even harder by the 2 or 3km of down hill road before the next climb, but we got there.

The gaps on the climbs started to get bigger as the legs got tired, well tired for some. Matt and Big George showed us how to climb hills, that is until they disappeared into the mist, only to be seen at the top of the climb patiently waiting for the rest of us. A good few hours on the bike in the end, even if it was a bit chilly, 130 odd km with almost 7000ft of climbing should be good for the legs later in the year.

In other news for Felt Racing we've entered the Mont 24 race which is sure to be a great race, see you all there in October. In actual fact, as a show of support for the Mont after a 'lacklustre' 24 sponsored by a competitor's company last year, it was revealed to us that we were the first people in Australia to enter the event, so get on it and enter it as soon as you can! Don't miss out, its going to be a cracker!!

Also this last week, we had a race on Thursday night, with Ash rockin the ghetto single speed (and NO, I don't know what gear is on it. Damm singlespeeders... jk!) and Jack on his training bike. Greeted by a handicap, we were off scratch, or 7min/5 laps with Maebus also on a SS. Around we charged, splashing through the few puddles that were around (thankfully) and waiting for the race to end. Handicaps are always tough for us, as we are set a merciless target to chase, and we have to just go 100% the whole way. Turning ourselves inside out for the best part of it, I stopped briefly to close a QR skewer that had fallen open (!!) and chased back on. For the rest of the race, Jimmy and I chased the geared man (Jack) around until the end where there was a brief sprint (gears vs SS - ouch!) and I tickled Duncan in our sprint as he didn't look like he was trying hard enough aboard his fixxed MTB!

So that was that, series points are looking good for Jack, and hopefully he can come away with something cool in his hot little hands. Speaking of something cool, NightLightnings' Alister called during the week to speak about the new hot rodded Endurez lights that are getting rave reviews!! Up to the power of an HID light is the call, and its being backed by some of the top riders in the state! Jason's set is going back to head office shortly for the upgrade to the new more powerful LED's and they are set to burn the world up!! Looks like our season got even better than it was already, so look out for the new and improved lights on riders heads, and check out the reviews in next months publications!!
