Castlemaine 6 hour Part 1 - 16" dual slalom
This weekend was the annual Castlemaine 6 hour, and it started in great style! A 16" dual slalom, a series of movies playing on the big screen, a BBQ with loads of great food, a few quiet drinks, a pair of warm fires and the tour on the telly! Classic Castlemaine hospitality and planning saw this event go from great to brilliant this year, with many positive raps from last year boosting the number of participants, as well as the promise of good weather!
With the course cut freshly into the paddock, and the bikes lying in wait, we took the opportunity to bed the course in a little... After a few runs/crashes, we were getting the hang of it all, but the track was suffering so we broke out the rake-hoes and got to work on the final details to make sure it was buffed for the main events.
To cut to the chase, and let some of photos do the talking, Jack was on fire for the night, facing stiff competition from the retired wunderkind Al Farley, and a spirited challenge from Evan Jeffery, whilst I was battling a little with bars of soap for pedals and no brakes. The races progressed up to the finals with the girls battling for corner supremacy with conviction, and the boys relegating all the pretenders to the cheap seats. In the final, Jack took on Al Farley and made no bones about going for 1st corner rights, come hell or high water. Sadly for him, Al got the hole shot, and kept it up despite a huge bump from Jack, he held it up and rode it down to the $$$!
After the finals, we once again retired to the marquee for the live coverage of the tour on the big screen, and hung out by the raging bonfire until one by one we retired out of the deep freeze until the morning.
