HDATO

In a repeat of last years race the Eildon weather turned up the temperature to make this years edition of the HDATO quite warm to say the least. Felt Racing had two 3 man teams entered in this years race with 2 ring-ins (Jarrod and Smeagol) filling out the the second team with Paul.

The track this year was pretty much exactly the same as last year with plenty of tough climbing and some fun single track. The lack of rain in the area was clear as there was quite a bit of dust in places and the track seemed to suffer in a couple of places. But on a whole it was an enjoyable course with something to challenge evey rider on course.

The race started this year with a riding start and a short prologue loop before riders headed out on the course proper. With a good start off the line Paul and I were able to gap the field and finish the prologue 1st and 2nd. After that things changed, Paul had been instructed to take it easy for the day and slowed down for the first lap. With my limited amount of riding before the event I found out that my fitness wasn't where I thought is was and managed to cook myself on the prologue and took almost half a lap to recover, finishing the lap a bit off the leaders.

New rider Scott Liston was next in line to rip up the track, and rip it up he did. He was able to catch the leading rider on course and put down a lap time which could not be matched for the rest of the day. Out went Mark for the next lap to complete the cycle. We were able to stay in front of our competition in the 3 man category and race for the outright lead with a couple of other 2 and 4 man teams. We were able to finish up 3rd outright and win our category which was a good effort. The B Team didn't do quite so well, with a few tumbles and a few "other" trips into the bushes saw them finish further back in the pack. It seemed to be quite an enjoyable day out in the Felt Tent city, which was in fine form as always thanks to Gerald, even if the level of trash talk between the two teams was higher than usual.

Sorry about the lack of photos, we should have some ready soon.
