Like a Record Baby, Right Round Round
Yesterday was a big day for my Virtue Team bike. It had its insides ripped out my replaced with some nice new bling bling Ceramic Enduro bearings from diymtb.com. The frame received a full set of ceramic pivot and headset bearings as well as new ceramic equipped bottom bracket cups, anodised red so that they can't be missed. And of course the derailleur wasn't forgotten either, the jockey wheels were swapped for new ones with ceramic bearings in them, no expense spared at Felt Racing! Wheels are the next on the list with a bag of loose ball bearing lined up to go into the XTR hubs and Enduro Fork seals will finish off the upgrade.
These new bearings will help us to spin the cranks even faster and allow the suspension to move more freely as well as improving the durability and life of the bearings. There is a lot of hype about the various advantages of ceramic bearings at the moment and I must admit that I was slightly sceptical about some of the claims but after playing with some of the bearings while Gez worked his magic with the bike the ceramic bearings do feel smoother than their steel relatives. And boy to they spin! When the cranks where reinstalled a quick back spin of the pedals showed that there is a whole lot less friction in this area.
The rest of the team bikes will be upgraded over the next few weeks with new bearings so stay tuned for some reviews once they have been ridden and raced on. They will be sure to get a test at tomorrows state XC race, feel free to say hi and have a look tomorrow.
Next week will also be the first outing in anger of the new look Felt Racing Team at the Hard Day At The Office 8 hour race in Eildon. We've entered two 2 man teams which will see the two young guns Paul and Scott up against the not so young but equally impressive guns of Mark and Jack.
