Chase the Sun (2)
With the Fog as thick as soup driving to Lysterfield, and the slight presence of rain in the air, appropriately we really were chasing the sun this time around, for the second round of FGP's marvelously run series, 'Chase the Sun'.
This race marked the first event with all our sponsors on board and all (able) riders kitted out appropriately. And on reflection the satisfaction with all the product was overwhelming, even with certain products we weren't expecting too much from, we finished the day really impressed.
My new ride got its first workout, and I am loving the slightly more compact frame and the slight reduction in travel. But the general feeling amongst the riders, when it came down to what impressed us most, was the PANARACER RAMPAGE tubeless tyres. Proving their worth in abundance.
5 hours was all that was being asked of us for this round, and I think the slightly shorter race attracted every Jill and Joe Maybe from the Southern Suberbs who otherwise wouldnt be confident with the longer races. The shear quantity of people out on the track at once sugested it would be vital to get a good start. The Van der Ploeg boys, Neil and Paul left no room for error and worked both Felt teams into the ideal position of 1st and 2nd by the end of the first lap.
Two and a half hours in, the race was half done, and it already looked like we'd caught the sun. Both Felt teams were out in front and daylight in 3rd, we rode out the day together keeping an eye out for the teams clawing at the gap.
At this stage in the race, and with the influence of Roadi tactics we decided to truse and split the winnings evenly among the two teams. Putting the A team over the line first to keep our series points pool healthy.
Me and DB in transition, Daniel sure hasn't lost much of his skill on the fat tyres, and loving those fire road climbs, dishing out the hurt by the truck load.
Stay tuned to hear about all the new product we've been racing with. And next week we will be heading out to the You Yangs for yet another 6 hour.
